=============================================================Any color bottle. The elephant has been on Loki's bed for four days now. Completely intact. Not a mark on it. Not a single tooth impression anywhere. This Siberian Husky who destroyed a heavy duty guaranteed durable toy in forty eight hours flat has had a small soft elephant on his bed for four days and has not touched it in any way that could be described as destructive. He does something with it though. Every morning. I have now seen it three times. He walks to his bed. Stands in front of it. Looks at the elephant for a moment. Just looks. Head slightly tilted. Expression I cannot fully read. Then he lies down beside it. Not on it. Beside it. And goes to sleep. That is it. That is the whole thing. But there is something in the way he looks at it before he lies down that I keep thinking about. Something careful and quiet in an animal who is usually neither of those things. I sat on the couch this morning and watched him do it. He did not know I was watching. He was not performing anything. It was just him and the elephant and whatever that moment is between them every single morning. Three years. This dog has surprised me more times than I can count. The sock collection. The mirror investigations. Gerald. Mochi. The blanket he made himself. The flower he carried so carefully not a petal fell. And now this. A small elephant on a bed. Looked at every morning. Never destroyed. Kept. I do not know what it means to him. But I know it means something. And I have learned with Loki that sometimes that is all you get and it is enough.
